One run is the argument: 8.5km top to bottom, 1,124m of vertical, the longest single run in Japan, at Suginohara on Myoko's flank in Niigata. 13 metres of powder land here each winter — the Sea of Japan empties itself on this mountain before anything reaches the Japan Alps. It's on the Ikon Pass — or ¥8,000 for a day pass. Hokkaido regulars come here to feel humble — about two hours north of us, passes direct via Prince Hotels.
